He stood out for their D-League team instead of being passed over again. He played on the 2013-14 season as well for a second year back for the 2014-15 season. Then he really stepped up. Simmons, the undrafted , overlooked, the guy who had to pay a minor league team to even watch him play, is now getting paid to play in the NBA, and not just for any team, for the San Antonio Spurs one of the couple teams in the NBA that could win the championship this season.

Simmons takes humbling path to earn a role with the Spurs
Rookie Johnathan Simmons is averaging 14.3 minutes a game as the Spurs have a 60 win title contending team on their hands. Simmons attended two junior colleges. The University of Houston for one season and then tried out the American Basketball League before that folded for him. He then went on to play for the D-League for the San Antonio Spurs team the Austin Toros. Simmons left his Houston home and drove 175 miles to San Antonio to play for their D League team in hopes because it was looking like there was nothing left for him.

Chris Paul pulls out of team USA
Team USA has an interesting decision to make after Chris Paul pulls out of the Rio games. Team USA has a poll of 31 players that are eligible for the 2016 games and now that is cut down to 30 players due to Paul's loss. He withdrew his name from consideration on Tuesday. Chris Paul, a two time gold medal winner, says that he wants to use the off season and rest and recuperate instead of attending his third Olympics ,says SL's Lee Jenkins. Chris Paul also stated that he will not be for team USA anymore beyond this summer. Chris Paul was a major contribution to the USA team just like he is for his Los Angeles Clippers, but we all have to respect Paul's decision to rest up for his actual NBA season. Plus, they have the best players in the world like Stephen Curry, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Anthony Davis so I'm sure that team USA will do just fine and get yet another gold medal adding to their list.
