NBA Star with a $90 million dollar contract drives a 1997 Chevy Tahoe
Kawhi Leonard, a USA All-Star who plays for the San Antonio Spurs, signed a $90 million dollar contract in 2015. He spends his summers in a two bedroom apartment in San Diego and often drives a 1997 Chevy Tahoe that has a Kelly Blue Book value of $1,152 dollars. If this All-Star signed a contract for an outstanding amount of money then why is he driving such a low style car compared to what all of the other athletes drive today. Maybe he wants to save his money, or maybe he just loves to play the game of basketball and doesn't care about all of the flashy items most celebrities/athletes accustomed themselves to. As being one of the best young basketball players in the world, Leonard says that his personal finance spending has caught a huge amount of conversation recently. As Leonard reported to ESPN recently, his Tahoe is paid off in full. I am sure that Kawhi has a bunch of personal values in his life but he is the type of professional athlete to not flaunt what he has and to keep being an outstanding basketball player, and that is what makes him such a great player.

It's pretty awesome to see a basketball player out there who isn't worried about the money, but he is just in it for the love of the game. Hopefully we see more players follow in his foot steps.
ReplyDeleteThere are two reasons I love this post... 1. I love the Spurs and 2. I knew Kawhi Leonard was one of the highest paid players in the NBA and I just assumed he spent his money like a majority of the athletes do. It's always nice to hear about players that value the game more than they value the money.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to see that he values the game more than the money. Something I also love about Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen. I also had no idea that Leonard was getting paid this much money for playing basketball. What is Curry's current contract like?
